First: Is it just you? Ask a coworker if they can connect. If nobody can, it’s likely the router/modem or your ISP — not your computer.

1

Reboot the Router & Modem

  1. Unplug the power from your modem (the box from your ISP) and your router (the WiFi box)
  2. Wait 30 seconds
  3. Plug the modem back in first, wait 60 seconds for lights to stabilize
  4. Plug the router back in, wait another 60 seconds
  5. Try connecting again
2

Forget & Reconnect to WiFi (Windows)

  1. Click the WiFi icon in the taskbar (bottom-right)
  2. Click the arrow next to your network name
  3. Click Forget
  4. Click on your WiFi network again and re-enter the password
3

Run Windows Network Troubleshooter

  1. Right-click the WiFi icon in the taskbar
  2. Select “Troubleshoot problems”
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts — Windows can often fix DNS and adapter issues automatically
4

Flush DNS Cache (Advanced)

If you can connect to WiFi but specific websites won’t load, try flushing your DNS cache:

  1. Press Windows + X → select Windows PowerShell (Admin)
  2. Type: ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter
  3. You should see: “Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache”
  4. Close PowerShell and try browsing again

⚠️ Still No Connection? It May Be Your ISP

If none of these steps work, your internet service provider may be experiencing an outage. Check downdetector.com for your ISP, or call them directly. Computer Central cannot fix ISP outages, but we can help confirm the issue is upstream.
